Experience
My name is Lucy. I have over 3 years of tutoring experience, tutoring in foreign languages (Japanese and Spanish) and some math, social studies, and English as well. I'm a senior at Northwestern, and as such have a strong base in academic writing and an academic approach. I got a 4.6 GPA in high school, a 34 on the ACT and 5's on my AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP English, and AP Spanish exams. Similarly, I have studied both Spanish and Japanese at a college level and have spent time studying abroad in both Venezuela (Spanish) and Japan and thus have a firm grasp on each language. Just spent the last year living and volunteering in South America and thus have a very firm grip on the language. Language wise, I'm available to tutor in both conversation and on more of an academic level. My tutoring style is very encouraging and positive. I think that learning should be fun, because it creates good skills and positive memories. I encourage my students to work hard and to think on their own, and I like to think that I teach people the means and methods to problem solve on their own. I don't want students to just memorize the way something is done, but to fundamentally help them understand it, thereby creating a lifelong learner who has the skill set to approach problems and continue to problem solve on their own in the future.
